History of Monte Vista

How the community took shape.

Monte Vista developed during San Antonio’s growth from roughly 1890 through 1930. Leading architects and builders produced Classical Revival, Tudor, Spanish Eclectic, Queen Anne, and Craftsman homes. Residents organized to protect the area in the 1970s; it became a local historic district in 1975 and a National Register district in 1998.
