History of King William

How the community took shape.

King William developed on former mission farmland south of downtown. Residential construction accelerated in the mid-1800s, when German immigrants and other residents built an unusually diverse collection of stone, brick, and frame homes. San Antonio designated King William its first local historic district in 1968, and the district later joined the National Register of Historic Places.
